James A. Loehr, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at the New Life Four Square Church, Anamosa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church and after 9:30 a.m. on Monday. The Rev. T.N. Taylor will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, is in charge of the arrangements. Thoughts memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; six children, Monica Loehr, Cleveland, Ohio, Carol Schminkey, Muscatine, Nathan (Suzanne) Loehr, Anamosa, Michael (Betsy) Loehr, Donahue, Matthew (Pam) Loehr, Bettendorf, and Bryan (Jodi) Loehr, DeKalb, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
James Arthur Loehr was born Aug. 14, 1934, at Iowa City, Iowa. He was the son of George A. and Bessie Underwood Loehr. He received his education in the Stone City schools. James married Doris Seeley on Nov. 1, 1954, at Anamosa, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his return from service the couple lived in Morley for a brief time and then moved to Hale in 1962. James worked at the Stone City Quarry and at the Allis-Chalmers plant in Cedar Rapids. He was employed at P&H Harnischfeger in Cedar Rapids as a welder for 33 years. He retired in 1985.
