James L. Albright (Jim), 89, passed away Dec. 23, 2025, from lung cancer. James was born April 13, 1936, in Jesup, IA, to John and Thelma Albright. Jim grew up in Independence and was the eldest of five siblings.
Jim graduated from Independence High School, class of 1955. He married Janice (Anderson) and moved to Cedar Rapids, raising four children. Jim and Janice loved to travel and spent summers taking their children on camping adventures throughout the United States and Canada.
Jim was a Pipefitter and a proud member of Plumber and Pipefitters Local125, retiring in 1998.
Jim and Janice divorced and he remarried Jeanette (Robinett). The two loved to dance and participate in several social events. Jim was raised from Mizpah Lodge #659 3rd Degree on May 22, 19858 and came into El Kahir Shrine on Nov. 16, 1985.
After losing Jeanette to cancer in 2002, Jim remarried Mary (McConnell) in 2003. Jim and Mary moved to Florida. After the passing of Mary in 2015, Jim moved back to Iowa to be closer to family.
Jim loved to have a good time listening to live bands, boot scootin’, or chatting with friends at Bushwoods with a cold beer in hand and where they made him feel wanted and loved.
Jim is survived by daughter Corinne Joens (Cedar Rapids) and son Jody Albright (Las Vegas); grandchildren Josh (Kim) Bell, Simon Short and Keily Short, Andrew and Leah Albright, Matt Albright, Julie Kroll, Tyler Ellison; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings John (Madonna) Linda Pebworth, Charles (Linda), Doug (Joyce); and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Tracy, son Kelly, daughter-in-law Hyde Albright, and son-in-law Randy Collins.
A celebration of life is planned for the spring of 2026, date and time to be determined.
