James Harrison Kelly, 75, of Sandusky, Ohio, formerly of Cedar Rapids, quietly passed on to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, by Dr. Bill Dudley of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. Private family burial at Fairfax Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Dawn (Bob) Bullard of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and Daneen Silker of Urbana; one sister, Kathy (Fred) Petersen of Cedar Rapids; his significant other for many years, Jean Tomich of Sandusky, Ohio; six grandsons, Jonathon (Bailey) Bullard, Chase (Allison) Bullard, Chad (Liz) Bullard and Nic Bullard, all of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Brandon Silker and Gage Silker of Urbana; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alberta Kelly; wife, Sharon; and his brother, Bill Kelly.
Jim was born on April 24, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Robert and Alberta Kepler Kelly. He graduated in 1957 from Roosevelt High School and served proudly in the Marine Corp from 1957 to 1960. He married Mary Fansler on Oct. 5, 1962, and they had two beautiful daughters. He married Sharon on June 6, 1980, in Malta, Ill. She died in 1985.
Jim spent many years of his life outside of Iowa, but always thought of Cedar Rapids as his home. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandsons in the outdoors. Jim was committed to the caring of his family, especially his daughters. He was a faithful friend and neighbor who always acted from kindness when others needed a hand. Jim will be missed by all of us he touched.
