JAMES JOHNSON Cedar Rapids James Johnson, 87, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Rev. Nathan Williams will officiate at the service. A visitation will begin immediately following the service until 3:30 p.m. Private family burial will follow visitation. Surviving are his wife, Doris; children, Jerry (Jan) Johnson of Vonore, Tenn., Sandy (Kris) Baumgart of Altoona and Steve (Sharon) Johnson of Hayden, Colo.; grandchildren, Derek (Tara) Johnson, Erin (Tyler) Schildroth, Curt (Bianca) Baumgart, Arielle Johnson, David (Lindsay) Johnson, Laura Johnson and Emma Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Ryker, Fiona, Emelynn and Desmond; a brother, Robert (Sharon) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Susan Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John. James Howard Johnson was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Geneseo, Ill., the son of Oscar and Madelon Pruitt Johnson. On Sept. 8, 1950, James and Doris Tappen were united in marriage at Central Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. James worked as a toll supervisor for Northwestern Bell. He was a longterm member of Masonic Crescent Lodge 25. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
