James “Jim” Macpherson, age 93, of Iowa City, formerly of Montana, died Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City. Jim was born June 16, 1930, in Port Washington, New York, to parents James William and Eleanor Doremus (Jacobi) Macpherson. After completing his freshman year of college at Cornell University, Jim moved to Bozeman, Montana, where he finished his engineering degree at Montana State University. He was a military veteran serving with the Army Corps of Engineers. Jim spent his professional life working as a civil engineer, contractor, and facilities director at University of Montana Western.
In 2014 Jim moved to Iowa City to be closer to family. He is survived by his daughter, Beth (Tim Leonard) Macpherson of Coralville, Iowa; sons, Scott (Kelley) Macpherson of Boise, Idaho, and Brekk Macpherson of Mechanicsville, Virginia; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four siblings and numerous extended family members.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Oaknoll who cared for and loved Jim. They enriched his life and ours. We also sincerely appreciate Dr. Jason Wilbur for his medical care and kindness.
A memorial service will be held in Montana at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Oaknoll Foundation to benefit the music and recreation therapy programs at Oaknoll.
