James “Jim” Leroy Lovell, 64, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his home. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, Iowa. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Prairieburg.
Jim was born on October 1, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Melvin and JoAnn (Loughren) Lovell. He attended school in Central City. On June 29, 1979, Jim was united in marriage to Jacqueline “Jackie” Oltmanns in Prairieburg. He worked for Farmstead Foods (formerly Wilson’s), Cedar Rapids Lumber, and Ogden and Adams Building Solutions, before retiring in 2024. Jim was an avid woodworker, often creating and building many things for others. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed going to many car shows and drag races. Jim even kept his first car, a ’73 Dodge Dart. He was always there for anyone and loved to socialize. Jim was always trying to make those around him laugh, but his greatest joy was time spent with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jackie Lovell of Central City; five children, Jamie Lovell (Macy Manahan) and their son, David, of Toddville, Iowa, Justin (Tasha) Lovell of Prairieburg, Jeanna (Kris) Wilder and their children, Kristena and Kaleb, of Polk City, Iowa, Jedediah Lovell (Holly Schoff) of Cedar Rapids, and Jenna (Connor) Cahill of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; one great granddaughter; mother, JoAnn Lovell of Monticello, Iowa; five brothers, Rick Lovell, Rob Lovell, and Randy Lovell, all of Prairieburg, Ron (Jessica) Lovell of Central City, and Marty (Michelle) Lovell of Marion; brother-in-law, Bob (Joan) Oltmanns of Center Junction, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Evie Blattner of Cedar Rapids and Carol Oltmanns of Ely, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Melvin Lovell; and brothers-in-law, Edward and David Oltmanns.
