James Lloyd Holderness was born July 23, 1935, in Iowa City, the son of Wilson "Pat" Lloyd Holderness and Mary (Breese) Holderness. Following graduation from Tiffin High School in 1953, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean conflict. Jim returned to Iowa City, where he married Marlene Esther Madden on Feb. 12, 1957. The couple farmed on the family farm where they raised their family. Jim also worked at the University of Iowa for a number of years. Jim loved the simple things in his life, his family, friends and the farm. He just didn't need much more than this!
