James “Jim” Hickman, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church, with Father Jon Seda officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., prior to the service, at the church. Private family burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Jim was born June 5, 1938, in Independence, Iowa, the son of George and Velma (Meffert) Hickman. He graduated in 1956, from Winthrop High School. In 1961, Jim joined the Iowa Army National Guard and honorably served 31 years. During his service, he was employed as a supply technician and retired after 26 years of service. Jim was united in marriage to Lois Kramer on May 5, 1962, in Monticello, Iowa. After he retired, he worked for Weland Clinical Laboratories. Jim loved his job and was known as a “jack of all trades.” He was a great husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; three children, Joe Hickman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Susan Hickman of Minnetonka, Minn., and Mark (Tammy) Hickman of St. Charles, Ill.; two grandchildren, Mikaela and Alyssa Hickman; a sister, Sandy (Mike) Cooney; and extended family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Hickman.
