Marshall, NC
James “Jim” Henry Hop, 80, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025, under the care of hospice after a valiant 20-year fight with prostate cancer. As always, his wife Jill was by his side.
Jim was born June 6, 1945 in Patuxent River, MD during his father’s 20-year Navy career. The family retired to Cedar Rapids, IA in September 1959. He attended the University of Iowa, served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and graduated from Moorhead State University in Kentucky. He settled in Margate, FL and was the owner of Hop’s Carpet Cleaning before retiring and moving to Marshall, NC in 2014.
Jim loved his Harley motorcycles, fishing and football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Miriam Hop; his brother Harvey Hop, Jr., and two nieces, Traci (Hop) Bozorgzadeh and Jennifer (Hop) Faas.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Jill; son Bryan (Michele) Abbajay; grandchildren Natalie and Bradyn Abbajay, all of Marshall; sister, Jon Lee (Hop) Finnegan, Prattville, AL; brother Karl (Lane) Hop, Ocala, FL/Bryson City, NC; nephew Scott (Suzy) Hop; and niece Trisha (Kellie Alberts) Hop.
