James “Jim” Francis Evans, 73, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Shellsburg, Iowa, passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease on Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospice in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the funeral home, with an additional visitation one hour prior. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Jim was born on October 10, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Howard Evans and Thelma (Beardsley) Hess. On May 2, 1970, Jim married Pat Crippen, who coincidentally shares his birthday, having been born exactly one year later. Jim owned and operated Stop Leak Roofing for 35 years until his retirement in 2013. Jim had a deep love for playing the guitar and cherished his time outdoors, where he immersed himself in his passions for hunting, fishing, and boating. He also found joy in gardening, collecting tractors, and attending auctions and estate sales. Known for his fondness for acquiring treasures, Jim was a bit of a hoarder at heart.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Pat Evans of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Kelly Novak and Kathy (Ted) Poohl, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Andrew Novak, Morgan (David) Schuttloffel, and Logan Poohl; great-grandson, Luke Schuttloffel; siblings, Bob (Deedee) Evans and Chuck (Becky) Evans, all of Cedar Rapids, and, Kay (Al) Welch of Atkins, Iowa; cousin, Elwyn Osterkamp; and many loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Evans Hess; stepfather, Vern Hess; father, Howard Evans; grandmother, Ethel Beardsley; and brothers, Marty Evans and Tom Evans.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
