James (Jim) Biederman
Hiawatha
James (Jim) Biederman, Hiawatha, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, peacefully in his sleep. Visitation will be held starting at 9:00 a.m. prior to the 10:30 Funeral Service on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. Burial will be in Shiloh cemetery next to the church.
Jim was born on October 1, 1929, to William and Irma Biederman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1948 and married Joan Krumm on August 14, 1948. Jim joined the U.S. military service in 1948 and was transferred when he was in the Air Force to France to operate a radio tower in 1952. Jim was discharged from service in January 1956. He and his family returned to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Jim worked initially as a draftsman and then a drafting supervisor at Collins Radio, which eventually became Rockwell Collins. Jim worked at Rockwell Collins for 30 years and retired in 1985.
Jim and Joan had four children: Janet, Jeannie, Jackie, and John. Jim loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and going on family vacations. He was a kind and loving person who was a devout Christian. He was very active in his church at Zion Lutheran in Hiawatha where he served on various church committees and was an elder. He was a member of a card club for years, he enjoyed woodworking, and he travelled throughout the Midwest with his family and friends to visit parks and scenic areas. Jim had a great sense of humor and a quick wit! Jim was a gift who will be deeply missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irma Biederman, his wife, Joan, his siblings, Margaret Lynn, Bob Biederman, Bernice Williams, and Bill Biederman. Jim is survived by his loving family: daughters Janet (Jerry) Mayer, Jeannie (Tom) Groth, and Jackie Reagan; son John (Linda) Biederman; grandchildren Jennifer, Sarah, Brian, Aimee, and Kevin; great grandchildren Jeneca, Michelle, Jonathan, Owen, Aidan, and Zoe and great great grandchildren; Aldin, Bryleigh, and Aleea; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or the family for distribution.
