James W. Jacobus, 73, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Deb Black officiating. The family
request everyone in attendance wear casual wear, Hawkeye if possible. Interment to follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of the Cross.
James was born Aug. 15, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of the late Fred and Helen (Schueler) Jacobus. On Valentine's Day 1976, James married the love of his life, Jo Ellen Behrends, who he loved dearly until he took his last breath. James worked for Highway Equipment Co. as a cleaner for 44 years before his retirement. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Hawkeyes, Packers, Yankees, Milwaukee Bucks and the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he coached the softball team for over 25 years. He loved following and attending all of his grandchildren's events. He loved all animals, especially his squirrels.
Those left to cherish James' memory are his wife, Jo Ellen Jacobus of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his children, Eric (Shelley) Jacobus of Palo, Iowa, Deanna (Walt) Bachman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa Joseph Jacobus of Cedar Rapids and Justin (Kristin) Jacobus, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Ronnie Jacobus of Shellsburg, Iowa, Larry Jacobus of Atkins, Iowa, and Doreen (Bob) Jones of Independence, Iowa.
James was preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Jameson Jacobus.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at St. Luke's Hospital for all the love and support they showed James while he was in their care.
