James Patrick "J.P." Kellogg Sr., 89, of Strawberry Point, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at the Straw-berry Point Lutheran Home.
He was born Jan. 23, 1929, in Strawberry Point, the sixth of 12 children born to Jack and Daisy (Farmer) Kellogg. J.P. graduated from Central Elkader High School in 1947. After high school, he served honorably in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 15, 1951, J.P. was united in marriage to Patricia Resor at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader. Five children were born to this union. J.P. was a lifelong resident of Clayton County. He worked as a television sales and service man for many years. Later in life, he worked at the Elkader Golf Course.
J.P. was a 60-plus-year member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 61 years. J.P. was inducted as a 4th-degree member and served as a past grand knight of the K of C. He was also a longtime member of the Strawberry Point American Legion.
J.P. enjoyed playing golf, reading and gardening. His family was very important to him and he cherished spending time with them.
Survivors include, his wife of 67 years, Patricia Kellogg of Strawberry Point; his five children, James P. (Dr. Lori Woeste) Kellogg Jr. of Hudson, Ill., Joyce Rhines of Strawberry Point, MaryKay (Carl) Strong of Galena, Ill., Nancy (Jerry) Robinson of Strawberry Point and Susie (Tom) Norberg of Strawberry Point; his 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Rayma McLane of Cedar Rapids and Bonnie Putzier of Northwood, Minn.; and one brother, Harold Kellogg of Lisle, Ill.
J.P. was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following: Strawberry Point Ambulance/Fire Department, St. Croix Hospice or Backbone Golf and Country Club, Strawberry Point.
Our family wishes to thank and extend our sincere gratitude, to the staffs of Strawberry Point Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care of our dad.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point with the Rev. John Haugen officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point. There will be no visitation at the church prior to the service. Interment with military rites: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Strawberry Point.
