James Henry Adair, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a graveside service immediately following at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Chappy’s Safari Lounge, 229 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids.
James Henry Adair was born Oct 14, 1937, in Homestead, Pa., the son of Alvin Newton and Dorothy Dawn (Garretson) Adair. Jim graduated from East McKeesport High School, Class of 1955. He moved to Fayette, Iowa, in 1966 where he attended Upper Iowa College, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Jim moved to the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area in 1970 and worked as a Union Plumber and Pipefitter for 28 years. Jim was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #125.
Surviving Jim are his two sisters, Audrey L. Adair of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Catherine W. Cella of Wilpen, Pa.; his cats, Tom and Lucky; special friends, Daniel Gonzales, Michelle Meyer, Allen Lerch, and Dennis Pedde, and all of his friends at Chappy’s Safari Lounge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Dorothy Adair.
