James H. Barta, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at St. Luke's UnityPoint Hospice.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Private at Cedar Memorial Park Cemtery.
Jim was born April 20, 1948, in Mitchell, S.D., the son of Joe and Peg Barta. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1952. Jim attended St. Patrick grade school and graduated from La Salle High School in 1966. He attended Loras College and the University of Iowa. On Nov. 25, 1977, he married Karen Jones Bentzinger at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Their son, Matthew, was born on July 2, 1985. Jim was with Jones Brothers Carpet for 27 years and real estate with Iowa Realty for 21 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed golfing, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and being with family and friends. Jim was a loyal and true friend to all. Jim also enjoyed the many John Wayne movies and listening to music.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen; his son, Matthew; brother, Cliff (Kirsten) Barta; his sister, Mary (Mike) Himes; and many nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his brothers-in-law, Richard Jones and Gregg (Kris) Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Barbara and Gordon Jones; and sister-in-law, Linda Jones.
