James Walter Greiner died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at his home near South English at age 78.
Jim was born June 13, 1939, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Walter Casper and Fern Edna (Harris) Greiner. He graduated from Kinross High School in 1957 and received his degree in animal husbandry from Oklahoma State in 1964. Jim was a lifelong farmer in the South English area. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kinross until it closed.
Jim enjoyed animals, joke-telling, playing hearts, birdwatching, the band Riders in the Sky and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Cox of Coralville and Linda Packard of Cumming; a sister-in-law, Doris Greiner of Kalona; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; a brother, David Greiner; a nephew, Clark A. Cox; and two brothers-in-law, Clark Cox and Michael Packard.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church, Keota. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, Keota.
Memorials are for Mary's Meals or the Heifer Project.
