James E. Gorsh, 69, formerly of Clinton, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, in Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Jim was born May 27, 1945, to Alvah and Mary (Mahan) Gorsh in Washington, Iowa. He was a 1964 graduate of Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids, attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, and then attended the University of Northern Iowa. He was drafted into the Army to serve stateside during the Vietnam War. Jim married Susan Lee Penaluna on July 6, 1968, in Waterloo. After being discharged from the Army, he completed his education at UNI. He was a manager for J.C. Penney and worked at Paul's Discount in Clinton.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sue, and mother, Mary, both of Cedar Rapids; children, Kelli (Matt) Elliott of Spring Hill, Tenn., Hollie (Hugh) Jackson of Lynchburg, Va., and Kyle (Rebecca) Gorsh of Ankeny; and his grandchildren, Mayah, Mason, Ivy, Madison, Lucy and McClain.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Nancy Clark.
Jim loved to hunt and fish, but his greatest desire was for his friends to know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim's memory may be directed to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, or the Master College and Seminary, Santa Clarita, Calif.
