James G. Maish, Sr., 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation: 9 – 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
James was born March 11, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lloyd and Marguerite (Grimm) Maish. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. James worked at Iowa Manufacturing, Farmstead/Wilson’s, and Schillig Auto before becoming a landlord in his retirement. He was a member of New Covenant Bible Church and American Legion 298 in Marion, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and watching the Green Bay Packers. James loved the time he spent with his friends and family; especially playing croquet with his grandchildren.
James is survived by his children, Jeff (Sharon) Maish Sr. and Jim (Sheleen) Maish Sr.; grandchildren, Christina Olson, Jeremy (Brooke) Maish, Josh Maish, Jeff (Soukaina) Maish II, Lysh Holley, and Lacey (Spencer) Culver; as well as many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gregory Maish; first wife, Georgina Maish; second wife, JoAnn Maish; and his sister, Jean Fischer.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be established in James’ honor.
