James Edgar Corcoran 93, passed peacefully on July 4th, 2025.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 18th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 17th, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where the rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to a cause that was important to Jim.
James, better known as “Jim” was born May 20th, 1932 in Fairbank, Iowa, the son of Edgar and Anna Corcoran (Mangan). He was raised in Fairbank and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School.
Jim excelled in baseball and basketball, which continued while attending Loras College in Dubuque where he received a bachelor’s degree in finance. Following college, Jim went on to serve in the army where he served in the Korean war. Jim was able to continue to play baseball and basketball while serving in the Army.
Upon being discharged from the army, Jim married Constance “Connie,” Crahan on August 11th, 1956 in Oelwein, Iowa at Sacred Heart Church. Jim and Connie were happily married for 68 years until Connie’s death in 2024. They had five children during their marriage: Kim, Kathleen, T.J., Amy Jo (died at birth) and Michael.
Jim had worked for Pillsbury and Lipton Tea while living in Waterloo and Cedar Rapids. Jim found his calling in Pharmaceuticals moving to Iowa City in 1963 where he worked for Lederle (now Pfizer). He was successful in this field, winning numerous awards including 4 Gold Cups, the highest award given within the company.
Jim was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Rotary club, the Elks, Monday morning Quarterback club and the Garden Club.
Jim loved being with his family. He was an avid fan of the Hawkeyes, enjoyed golfing and going out to eat and trying new restaurants and of course, celebrating his Irish heritage with outings for St. Patrick’s Day.
Jim is survived by his children, Kim Corcoran of North Liberty, Kathleen Corcoran (Burl) Matthes of Solon, Tim “T.J.” (Laurie) Corcoran of Des Moines and Michael Corcoran of North Liberty.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his infant daughter, Amy Jo and his sister Beverly Kerns and brother Bobby Corcoran.
