James W. Dougan, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Living Center East. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Noelridge Christian Church. Inurn-ment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum colum-barium. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park
Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and at the church after 10 a.m. Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Madge; daughter, Barbara of Chicago; one sister, Marta Schweitzer of Junction City, Kan.; six nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, James II; his parents, five sisters and six brothers-in-law.
James was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Council Grove, Kan., to Maude Bell and Charles Dougan. He attended high school in Wilsey, Kan., graduated from Emporia State Teachers College and taught school for four years. He owned his own interior decorating business in Chicago for 32 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy in the Pacific
Theater for four years. He was a member of Noelridge Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
All who knew Jim enjoyed his Irish wit, good-natured, fun-loving disposition, crafts and generosity.
His wish was for people not to grieve, but to wish him Godspeed on his last journey.
