James "Don" Dales, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be before the funeral starting at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion.
Don was born on March 18, 1929, to James and Ida (Kassel) Dales in Newhall, Iowa. He proudly served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. On July 20, 1953, he married the love of his life, Dona Jean Wilson. He worked as a sheet metal worker for 37 years with LeFebure Corp. in Cedar Rapids. In his free time, Don loved to play golf at the Fawn Creek Golf Course in Anamosa, play cribbage with friends, and watch the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs with his family. He was an avid collector of coins, sports figures and baseball cards. Every Thursday for over 10 years, he and Dona would go to the Pizza Place in Center Point. Don had a cheerful personality and always had a smile on his face.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Dona; their two children, Pam (Larry) Wilson and Rocky (Kim) Dales; four loving grandchildren, Stefanie (Charlie) Potter, Stacie Wilson, Ryan Dales and Jenna Dales; and two great-granddaughters, Sydney and Hayley Potter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Wally and Bob Dales.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart and Lung Association in Don's name.
