James Crowley, 101, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Anamosa, with interment in the Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Shirley; two children, Christine (John) Beaufeaux, Scottsdale, Ariz., and William (Brenda) Crowley, Anamosa; five grandchildren, Wendy (Corey) Cameron, Ryan Beaufeaux, Zachary Beaufeaux, Brooke (David) Gilchrist and Brandon (Jennifer) Crowley; and 11 great-grandchildren, Connor, Mya, Leia, Ella, Tate, James, Pria, Tara, Jake, Levi and Kala.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Francis; and six sisters, Mayme Pillard, Margaret Crowley, Irene Franklin, Leona Bruce, Rita Bohren and Berniece Callanan.
James Joseph Crowley was born Oct. 14, 1913, at Faulkton, S.D. He was the son of William P. and Elizabeth G. Crilley Crowley. Jim attended the rural schools in the Prairieburg area. He then farmed with his parents before going to work at the produce company in Central City. Following Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Army. Jim returned home after the war and worked as a carpenter with his brother, Francis.
James Crowley and Shirley Miles were married Jan. 7, 1952, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Central City. Jim started working at the Jones County Courthouse in 1975 in the maintenance department. He retired in 1991. Jim loved to go dancing with Shirley and have coffee with the Hardee's group and do some wood-working. Jim and Shirley had been living at the Meadow Ridge Senior Housing and at 100 years old, he still helped Gary Carlson with the maintenance projects.
