James George Burlingham, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017. A jazz Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Peoples Church, 4980 Gordon Ave. NW. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family.
Jim was a jazz trumpet player and inspired his little brother to play the drums. He loved music and spent many years playing in bands. Jim was a drug counselor and touched many lives with his kind and gentle nature. His dear friend Carol said, "When I grow up, I want to be as positive and loving as Jim."
Jim was the best uncle and friend, and how lucky we were to share his grace. He will be truly missed by his niece, Susie Good and family, and all of his wonderful friends.
The family wishes to thank Living Center West and Garnett Place for the care and support they gave in Jim's final years. Thank you to his many friends who took care of him, and Carol for the love and generosity you gave, and being there with Jim when he journeyed on.
Memorials may be directed to KCCK Jazz, attention: Michelle Collier, 6301 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
"The free soul is rare, but you know it when you see it – because you feel good, very good, when you are near or with them."
