James "Jim" Joseph Bowersox, 72, of Swisher, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at the Shuey-ville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Craig Peters presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
James was born Sept. 24, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, the son of James W. and Wilma (Louvar) Bowersox. He was a graduate of the original class at Prairie High School in 1959. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1962, with a degree in agriculture. Jim served in the United States Army for two years at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. He returned to Swisher, where he was an active member of his community, church, and a lifetime farmer.
Jim is survived by his children, Lori Bowersox of Durham, N.C., Chris (Colene) Bowersox, and their daughters, Britt and Brooke, and Doug Bowersox, both of Swisher, and Susan (Gary Tomas) Bowersox, and their children, Carter and Adelyn, of Fairfax; his siblings, Carol (Ken) Cuhel of Swisher, David (Kathy) Bowersox of Shueyville and Sheryl (Rod) Cook of Newark, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews.
