James was born March 2, 1954 to John T. and Stachia Bell in Cedar Rapids, Ia.
James graduated from Jefferson High School in 1972.
James enjoyed playing all sports and spent many years playing softball. He was an avid fan of the World Champion Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. James loved muscle cars and was a great mechanic, always lending a hand.
He continued the family tradition of driving a truck for several years before working maintenance at Geneva Towers.
James is survived by his son, Joshua (Kimberly); grandsons Colten, Bryce and Ayden; brothers John T. (Cheryl) Joseph (Deborah); sisters Dianne Johnson and Shelia Scovill, along with a host of extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Stachia Coover.
A celebration of life will be held on June 30 at Manhattan Pavilion in Cedar Rapids at noon.
