Jacqueline Carolyn Strother, 76, of Martelle, passed away at her home Monday, Jan. 5, 2015. As were her wishes, she was cremated. A celebration of her life will be scheduled in the early spring when the prairies of Iowa begin to wake up.
Jacqueline is survived by her children: Eugene (Diana) Strother of Cedar Rapids, Allan (Kay) Strother of Anamosa, Daniel Strother of Atlanta, Ga., Diane (Ron) Vincent of Mountain Home, Ark., and Luanne (Jim) Miller of Ely. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, and sibling, Joyce (Robert) Quinby of Brighton, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louis Glenn Strother; and brother, Robert Feddersen.
Jackie was born March 3, 1938, to Thomas and Bertha (Lampa) Feddersen in Central City, Iowa. After graduating high school, she obtained her degree in hotel management, AA Rural Development, and a degree in the Ikenobo School of Japanese Flower Arrangement while studying in Japan. On Feb. 28, 1977, Jacqueline married Louis Glenn Strother.
She attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. Jackie served as president of the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, as well as the Good Earth Garden Club of Cedar Rapids.
Jackie was one of those people who DID what we dream of. She will be remembered as a very complex, yet thoughtful person by her family, nieces, nephews and many friends. She looked forward to beginning each day with her cup of coffee and treasured friends. She was an active member of many organizations and took pride in visiting all seven continents. Jackie was a gifted caregiver, illustrated by her 26 years serving as a volunteer for hospice.
She was a no-nonsense, straight-forward individual. If you wanted to know anything about antiques, Jackie was the person to go to. Her desire for knowledge never ceased.
In her spare time she also enjoyed playing bridge, painting, a game or two of mahjong, and somehow found time to watch an episode of "Curious George."
Memorial donations may be made to the Anamosa Library & Learning Center, the Catherine McAuley Center, hospice, the Good Earth Garden Club, the Martelle Fire Department, or a charity of your choice.
