Jacobson, Bernice
Bernice Jacobson, 86, formerly of Chapin, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Retz Funeral Home, 203 Maple St., Sheffield, with Pastor Sandy Gobeli presiding. Interment will be at Wayside Cemetery in Chapin. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday and continue until the service starts at the funeral home.
Bernice I. Jacobson was born in Algona, Iowa, a daughter of Elmer and Ethel (Blake) Gross. At a young age her family moved to the Rockford area and she was educated in the Rockford schools. On April 19, 1943, Bernice was united in marriage with LaVerne Clifford Jacobson at Austin, Minn.
Bernice worked as a cook at cafes in Hampton and Clear Lake; she also worked as an aide at the Sheffield Care Center.
She enjoyed working with flowers and in her garden.
Living family members include her children: Judy (Larry) Stockberger, Ackley; Barbara (Richard) Thomas, Henning, Minn.; Clifford (Sue) Jacobson, Luzerne; Norman (Elaine) Jacobson, Springville; Paul Jacobson, Kansas City, Mo.; and Patrica (Tony) Harris, North English; andsister, DeEtta Erickson, Plymouth, Minn.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVerne; infant daughter, Carol Edna; and 13 brothers and sisters.
