Jacobs, Dick Lee
Dick Lee Jacobs, 76, of Marion, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the funeral home, conducted by Chaplain Phil Saunders. Graveside Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hopkinton Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 298 of Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Thelma; children, Michele (Brian) Cariveau of Robins, Mike (Cindy) Jacobs of Cedar Rapids and Wayne (Melissa) Jacobs of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, Tim (Melissa) Jones of Shueyville, Mike Jones of Cedar Rapids, Pat (Julie) Jones of Toddville and Cindy (Terry) Anderson of Lake Elmo, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Steve, Jonathan, Aaron, Sheena, Katie, Amanda, Kasey, Wiatt, Dorothy and Trey; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ron (Karen) Jacobs of Cedar Rapids; three sisters-in-law, Doris Jacobs of Marion, Linda Jacobs of Cedar Rapids and Marilyn (Mert) Lange of Hopkinton; brother-in-law, Walt Eveland of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Russell and Raymond Jacobs; and sister, Vera Eveland.
Dick was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Centerville, the son of Forrest Lee and Della Mae (Hixon) Jacobs. He attended Marion High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from 1955 to 1959. Dick worked as a tool and die machinist for Rockwell Collins for over 30 years until his retirement in December 1991. He married Thelma Thompson on Feb. 14, 1989, in Wheaton, Ill. Dick enjoyed woodworking, carving, hunting and fishing. He was a member of American Legion Post 298 of Marion.
