Jacobi, Mayme Georgia
Mayme Georgia Jacobi, 75, of Traer, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer while under the loving care of its staff, her family and Hospice Compassus. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer. Visitation ill be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home in Traer, where a rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m.
Mayme was born April 10, 1935, at Traer, Iowa, to Ludwig and Mildred (Roubinek) Seda, and grew up on the family farm south of Traer. he attended country grade-school and graduated from Traer High School in 1953. fter one year at Iowa State University she continued her education at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, where she received her RN degree, with honors as the most outstanding clinician. n Aug. 26, 1957, she married Donald R. Jacobi at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier.
Mayme began her 50-year nursing career in 1957 at Charleston, S.C., while her husband completed active duty service in the Air Force. er professional experience included many different capacities and locations, most recently at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer until her retirement in 2008. he essence of her life as a nurse was one of variety - meeting new people, new challenges, and always being an advocate for the patient.
Mayme was a devoted wife and mother and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. he actively supported her children academically, in extracurricular music activities, and special health needs while attending to duties associated with her husband's veterinary practice. She was also an avid reader of mystery novels and human interest stories.
Anyone who knew her will remember her laughter and quick wit.
Mayme's community involvement included membership in her local churches, St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer, St. Vincent DePaul's Catholic Church in Omaha, and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan. he was a liturgical and music minister, an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion as well as a religious education teacher. he also accompanied her husband in a course of study for the Permanent Deaconate in the Diocese of Des Moines, culminating in his ordination in 1974 and continued her supportive role in that ministry. ayme and Don served as Band Parent presidents at Harlan Community High School. he was also an active volunteer and advocate for disabled children and young adults. With her children grown she became more active as a member of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; four children, David of Iowa City, Susan (Stanley) Jacobi-Brewer of Urbandale, Kathleen (Duane) Jacobi-Karna of Muncie, Ind., and Daniel (Dorothy) of Ely; 11 grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachael, Renee', David II, and Nathaniel Jacobi; Millie and Suzanne Brewer; Kathryn and Jacob Karna; Daniel II and Delaney Jacobi; and two brothers, Leonard (Collette) Seda of Victor and Ted (Gail) Seda of Green Bay, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Mildred Seda.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Compassus, Traer Ambulance Service, Traer Public Library, or St Paul Catholic Church in Mayme's honor.
