Jackson, Bert S.
Bert S. Jackson, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Bert was born May 29, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Bert and Bessie (Bartosh) Jackson. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Irma Havlicek on Nov. 1, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. Bert was a carpenter his whole life and retired as carpenter foreman with the Cedar Rapids School District.
His family knew him as the jack of all trades.
Bert is survived by his children, Linda Petersen (Pete) and Roger; grandchildren, Brad Jackson, Stacie Jackson-McGarr (Davide), Jenny Powelka (Matt) and Curt Jackson (Tasha); two great-grandchildren, Jackson Powelka and Ivy Adix; his beloved cat, Sox; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irma; and a sister, Marguerite Jackson.
