Jackie Durbala, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at West Ridge Care Center. A private Mass for family and close friends will take place on Friday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Burial: Mount Calvary, Cedar Rapids. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and socially distance. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, assisted the family.
Jackie was born on July 27, 1936, the daughter of John "Jack" Strellner and Agnes (Slebiska) Lane. In 1952, she graduated from St. Patrick High School in Cedar Rapids. Jackie was united in marriage to Carl Vernon Durbala on Sept. 22, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. Jackie was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters and Westfield Tennis Club. She volunteered for many years at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Jackie enjoyed bowling, tennis, playing cards and time spent with family and friends.
Jackie will be greatly missed by her children, Janet Durbala of Cedar Rapids, Dan Durbala of Blairstown, Iowa, Brad Durbala of Cedar Rapids and Steve (and Sara) Durbala of Amana, Iowa; grandchildren, Hunter, Blade, Dakota and Karma; siblings, Glenn Strellner, Karen (Bob) Harman, Mike (Sue) Lane, Mary Vomacka, Verlyn Strellner, Steve (LuAnn) Strellner and Bonnie (Bonis) Byrd; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Strellner; mother, Agnes Lane; husband of 62 years, Carl Durbala, in 2018; brother, Butchie Lane; sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Strellner and Bev Strellner; and brother-in-law, Dick Vomacka.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for charitable donations in honor of her kindness and generosity.
