Jack D. Smith, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral Services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the chapel. A private family burial, with military honors, will take place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jack's name may be directed to the Smith family.

Jack was born March 27, 1935, in Rock Falls, Ill., to Vernon LaRue and Rae Madeline (Rathke) Smith. He was married to Janet Sue Light on Aug. 8, 1969, in Sterling, Ill. Jack served with the United States Army from 1953 to 1956 during the Korean War. He owned and operated J&J Trucking until his retirement at age 74.
He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He also enjoyed chatting with friends and family on Facebook.
He is survived by his wife, Janet of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Kerrie Pettit (Ron) of Solon; son, Kevin Smith (Theresa) of Vinton; daughter, Jennifer Cline (Kevin) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, LeAnne Smith-Perry (Craig) of Urbana; daughter, Kelly Rae Leduc of Canada; son, Randy Dublo of Ohio; 19 grandchildren, Lisa, Bryan and Chad Pettit, Cameron Weber, Erin and Bethany Smith, Brendan Goode, Garry and Kaiylee Smith, Heather, Jeremy and Jordan Cline, Dakota, Courtney, Kelsey, Kara and Cayla Perry, Kim Leduc and Gabrielle Dublo; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce Olds and Sandra Geesey (Larry) of Illinois.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; infant children, Larry Dean Smith and Cheryl Ann Light; granddaughters, Marissa Cline and Krystin Smith-Troncoso; brother, Virgil Smith; and brother-in-law, Jim Olds.
