Ivan Dean Powers, 90, of Manchester, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester by the Rev. Tony Ede. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, rural Masonville.
Dean was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Ray Isaac Powers and Wilma Ray (Wells) Powers. Dean attended Anamosa schools. Dean served in the U.S. Army in the World War II European Theater from 1943 through 1945, and was involved in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. Dean received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Ribbon. On June 4, 1948, Dean and Ollie Jean Bemrose were united in marriage. They divorced in 1952, and remarried Dec. 16, 1972, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester. Dean worked as a bricklayer and construction worker with Laborers 43 until his retirement.
Survivors include his children, Ronald (Tammy) Jacobson of Cedar Rapids, Mary Gibbs of Dubuque, R.J. (Julie) Jacobson of Arroyo Grande, Calif., Jeff (Christy) Jacobson of Manchester and Joni (Don Merfeld) Jacobson of Dubuque; son-in-law, Larry Ridenour of Manchester; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis; and sister-in-law, Nelda.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Rose Marie Ridenour; a granddaughter, Kendra Ridenour; brothers, Merlyn, Glen Eldon and Darryll; and sisters, Helen and Barbara.
