ISLA MAE "TISH" EVERS
Aurora, Ill.
Isla Mae "Tish" Evers, 90, of Aurora, Ill., passed away on Jan. 15, 2018, at Presence McAuley Manor in Aurora, Ill. She was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Pearl (St. Clair) Tisher.
Tish was a 1951 graduate of the University of Iowa. She then began her teaching career at Mooseheart in Mooseheart, Ill. She was instrumental in starting a drum and bugle corps, and was heavily involved in developing Mooseheart's athletic programs. Tish then joined the West Aurora school district #129 as a gym teacher, and later was an assistant principal. Her teaching career spanned some 33 years. In retirement, Tish enjoyed traveling and swimming, as well as her time with her many friends. Tish was a longtime, devoted member of Holy Angels Church. She was a life member of the National Education Foundation and the Retired Teachers' Association.
Tish is survived by her nephews, W. Ken MacAllister, Jon Singelstad and John Tisher; her nieces, Mary Hughes, Dixie McLaud, Shari Singelstad, Linda Singelstad and RoxAnn Tisher; as well as several great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Tish was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Evers; her parents; her sisters, Jean Brown and Grace Singelstad; her brothers, John, William Kenneth and Howard Tisher; and a nephew, Steve Singelstad.
Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to celebrate her life, on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Holy Angels Church, located at the corner of Lancaster and Hardin avenues in Aurora, Ill. Private entombment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Ill.
