Irwin “Irv” C. Votroubek, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. prayer service. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Fairfax.
Irwin was born Sept. 26, 1936, in rural Johnson County, the son of Ben and Libbie (Vostrel) Votroubek. He graduated from Amana High School, Class of 1955. Irv met his future wife, Marlene L. Swenka, when they were both 18, and just knew she was “the one” They were united in marriage on June 23, 1956, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He worked for over 33 years at Rockwell Goss Manufacturing, until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed gardening (weeds and all), tending to his flowers and cactus, going to tractor shows, polka music, especially Molly B, country music (only the old stuff), traveling with his wife in his healthier years. He was a loving husband, father, best grandfather, “Poppy, Pops, G-Pa” ever and will be greatly missed.
Irv is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Marlene; his sons Craig Votroubek and Todd (Mary) Votroubek; his daughter Ann Rude; daughter-in-law Cathy Votroubek; seven grandchildren, Yvette (Chad) Hamlett, Vanessa Sarver (Pete Harrington), Hanna (Aaron) McDowell, Zach (Morgan) Votroubek, Mike Kacher, Ben Votroubek (Sonja Borgmann) and Cory (Katie Pline) Rude; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; his siblings Wanda (Jerry) Pisney and Nina (Howard) Knott; his brother-in-law Norman Schumacher; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lorraine Schumacher.
