IRMA DENNIS
Center Point
Irma Marie Dennis, 100, of Center Point, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living, Cedar Rapids. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, with Pastor Robin Spurling officiating. Arrangements provided by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.
Irma is survived by her daughter, Kaye (George) Running of Dubuque; grandson, Nathan Running of New York, N.Y.; granddaughter, Kristi Running of the Twin Cities in Minnesota; and two nephews, Keith Bull of Springfield, Ill., and Dennis Bull of California.
Irma was born July 27, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the only child of Ferne and Lidmil Palda. Her father passed away in 1918 during a flu epidemic. Irma attended Cedar Rapids schools and graduated in January 1934 from Grant High School. She also attended and graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College, where she met Keith A. Dennis of Center Point. They were married April 9, 1938, and made their home in Center Point. To this union, two daughters, Kaye Marie and Dee Ann, were born. Keith passed away Feb. 26, 1950, from an aneurysm of the aorta. Irma participated in several organizations for the handicapped.
Mother didn't measure her wealth in money or material things, but in her love of God, family and a multitude of friends. She faced a lot of challenges in her 100 years, but lived her faith in God and came through it all with a smile on her face. She always practiced acceptance and forgiveness – may this be her lasting legacy to her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous in Monticello, Albrecht Acres in Dubuque, or a charity of the donor's choice.
