Iris was born in Pueblo, Colo., to Valdimure Albert and Vivian Zee Thompson Eberhart on April 21, 1921. She married Forrest Chester Edkin in Washington state on Jan. 4, 1942. While Forrest was overseas with the Army Air Corps during World War II, Iris lived with family in St. Joseph, Mo. After the war years, they moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, and lived there until 1952, when they moved to Davenport, Iowa, where Forrest completed his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. In 1955, the family moved to Columbus Junction, where she resided until 2007. Iris then moved to Muscatine and resided there with her daughter, Sylvia, until her health required additional special care. In November 2015, she moved to Millpond Senior Care Center in Ankeny to be near her daughter, Cynthia. She also was blessed to live close enough to her sons so that they could assist with her needs and visit often.
Iris is survived by two sons, Forrest (Frosty) Edkin and wife Linda of Muscatine and Dr. Roger Edkin and wife Pam of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Cynthia Gregory and husband Ed of Ankeny and Sylvia Carson and husband David of Muscatine; and one brother, Glen Eberhart of Florida. She also is survived by 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three children, Vivian, Bruce and Mark; one sister, Beverly; two grandchildren, Andrew and Warren; and one great-grandchild, Paige.
