Irene Gertrude Kupka, 97, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, at Overton Funeral Home, Traer. A rosary will be held at 9 a.m. Friday. Private services will be held. Burial: St. Paul Catholic Church Cemetery, Traer.

Irene Gertrude Kupka was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of Stephen and Anna (Benesh) Weaver. She attended Chelsea Community School. On Oct. 7, 1936, Irene was united in marriage to Anton Kupka at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chelsea. The couple made their home on a farm near Clutier until their retirement when they moved to Traer. The couple also lived in Utah for 10 years before returning to Traer.
Irene worked as a nurse's aide at Sunrise Hill Care Center and also was a county care worker. Irene was a 4H leader and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and eight brothers and sisters.
Irene is survived by three sons, John (Joan) Kupka of Brooklyn, Iowa, Alvin (Linda) Kupka of Muscatine and Thomas Kupka of Provo, Utah; two daughters, Mary Ann (Bob) Steffeny of Traer and Patricia Kupka of Waterloo; and 27 grandchildren.
