Irene Agnes Herold, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Spillville. Friends may visit with the family after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Irene is survived by her children, Richard R. Herold (Sue Hendren) of Cedar Rapids, Randall A. Herold (Vikki) of Kansas City, Kan., and Lori A. Herold of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; her grandchildren, Chad Herold (Taunia Brecht Bradley) and Ryan Herold, both of Cedar Rapids, and Rachel (Chad) Baumler of Shawnee, Kan.; her six great-grandchildren, Elle Herold and Rose, Paige, Benjamin, Beau and Pearl Baumler; her brother, Stanley Jarosh of Cedar Rapids; and her sister, Dolores (Chuck) Ira of Spillville.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her brothers, Venylan and George; and her sister, Viola Houdek.
Irene was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Albert and Agnes Klimesh Jarosh, and attended country school. She married Richard Herold on Oct. 2, 1946, at Assumption Catholic Church in Little Turkey. He died Aug. 29, 1976. Irene retired in 1990 after 25 years with Cryovac, W.R. Grace Co. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Irene and Richard enjoyed dancing. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed baking. Her specialty was oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. She loved reading, listening to music, and was a wonderful yodeler. She looked forward to her vacations to California and traveled to various states and Europe, Czech Republic, Prague and Germany. She had a "heart of gold" and will be dearly missed.
