Irene Frasher, 81, of Cedar Rapids, and formerly of Marion, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids.
Irene Marie Frasher, daughter of Leonard and Elsie (French) Pike, was born on October 11, 1942, near Coggon, Iowa. She lived in several different houses in the Coggon and surrounding area during her childhood, following her father who built houses for a living. In 1959 Marion Rural became Linn-Mar High School. Irene was part of the new high school’s first graduation ceremony in June of 1960. Shortly after that, she met and fell in love with David Bernard Frasher. The two were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa on April
22, 1961. Dave and Irene lived in Marion all of their years together, until moving to Stoney Point Meadows in Cedar Rapids in November 2021. Irene worked at Bishop’s Buffet in Lindale Plaza, Hy-Vee Bakery in Marion, Willow Gardens Care Center as a dietary aid in Marion, and she retired from TJ Maxx in 2015. Irene was a devoted wife and loving mother to her children. She loved family gatherings, enjoying flower gardens, watching and feeding the birds, especially cardinals. Irene was a loving woman who always made time for her family, and she will be deeply missed.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Leo Pike, Kenneth Pike, Floyd Pike, and Rusty Pike; one sister, Charlotte Kitzmann and Charlotte's son, David Kitzmann, who was like a brother to Irene.
Left to honor her memory is her husband, Dave Frasher, her children, Jeff (Rashelle) Frasher, Cedar Rapids, Tom (Gail) Frasher, Cedar Rapids, Sue (Steve) Kearney, McKinney, Texas; a brother, Glen (Ann) Pike of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Erin (Matt) Wilde, Tim (Meredith) Frasher, Joe Frasher, Jacob Sherman; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
We would like to thank the staff at Stoney Point Meadows and The Gardens of Cedar Rapids for their excellent care of Mom. You filled her days with laughter, safety, companionship, and comfort.
Per Irene’s wishes there will be no visitation or services at this time. A private service will be held at a later date. Irene has chosen inurnment and Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, assisted with the arrangements.
