Irene Elanor Crutchley, 81, of Marion, formerly of Iowa City, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial: Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty.
Survivors include her brother, Harold of Marion; four nieces, Merna Moore of Marion, Dawn Carter of Toddville, Linda Carter of Tiffin and Cheri Leaman of Deltona, Fla.; five nephews, Ken Crutchley of Marion, Chuck Crutchley of Mount Vernon, Roger Fleming of Amana, Darrell Aler of Cedar Rapids and Richard Bowman of Douds, Iowa; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers and three nieces.
Irene was born Jan. 20, 1933, to Alice (Kessler) and Daniel Crutchley near North Liberty, Iowa. She attended Alburnett Consolidated School. Irene worked at the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Westinghouse in Iowa City and the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center. She did volunteer work for the Iowa City Public Library for many years and was named Volunteer of the Year in April 2003.
Irene was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Memorials may be directed to Linn Manor Care Center, Iowa City Church of the Nazarene, Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids or the Iowa City / Johnson County Senior Center in Irene's memory.
Irene and her family would like to thank the caregivers, residents and their families for all of the loving care and support she received during the past four years that she called Linn Manor Care Center her home.
