Irene E. Berger, 100, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Karl (Lou Alice) Berger of Cedar Rapids and Stephen Berger and friend Kathleen Poldberg of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Marjorie Wiese of South Dakota; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard Berger, and seven siblings.
Irene was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Fedora, S.D., the daughter of George and Mary (Fiedler) Carpenter. She married Richard Elvert Berger in April 1937. Irene worked for Blue Cross Insurance Co., was senior clerk for S.A.G., and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed bowling, winning many trophies; traveling and dancing, with the honor of dancing with Lawrence Welk.
