Irene A. Richards, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday April 2, 2023, following a short illness at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Services: noon Tuesday, at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Dennis Miller. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday after 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Irene is survived by her children, Don (Holly) Richards, Debbie Braumann and Diane (Ed) O’Brien, all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Donnie, Derek (Paige), Quinn (Katie), Zoey (Brayam), Brooke (Derek) and Ashley (Collin); nine great-grandchildren; sister, Doris; and brother, Fred.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Dick Richards and second husband, Dick Edgar; grandson, Dusty; son-in-law, Bob Braumann; sister, Ellen; and brothers, Robert and Harry.
Irene was born on April 18, 1932, in Racine, Wia., the daughter of Harry and Amy Bolton Gibson. She graduated from St. Patrick High School, Cedar Rapids. Irene married Donald “Dick” Richards on March 7, 1953, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Dick passed away on May 28, 1996. After Dick’s passing, Irene married Richard “Dick” Edgar on May 5, 2006, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Dick passed away on June 19, 2015. Irene owned and operated Irene’s Consignment Shop in Cedar Rapids for 14 years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a former member of the Cedar Rapids Antique Car Club.
Irene enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her faithful companion, Buddy.
