Ione Burham, 95, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at the Halcyon House in Washington.
Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. A celebration of Ione's life in word and music will be observed on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 2:30 p.m. at Washington United Methodist Church, followed by a time of fellowship, food and jazz in Fellowship Hall. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Church of the Halcyon Good Samaritan Endowment Fund. Online condolences may be sent to Ione's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com. Doris Ione Steele was born on June 20, 1922, near Riverside, Iowa. The daughter of Milo Sr. and Doris (Wilcox) Steele, she grew up in Washington, Iowa, with brothers Milo Jr. and Robert Steele, and sisters, Audrey (Chmelar) and Joyce (Chorpening). On April 10, 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, Everett K. Burham, in Ponca City, Okla., a marriage blessed with two sons, Randolph K. of Garland, Texas, and Drew C. of Des Moines, Iowa.
She tried to spoil grandkids, was endowed with a sense of humor, had a passion for worthy causes, lived life to the fullest, strived to "Do the Gospel" daily and was loved dearly.
