Inez K. Winker, 87, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Mount
Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include two sons, James (Ruth) Winker of Marion and Steven (Cynthia) Winker of Ashland City, Tenn.; daughter, Gail (Roger) Simmering of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lon Diers of Carroll, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daryl, in 2012; and a brother, Donald Diers.
Inez Katherine Diers was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Arcadia, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Loretta (Niehaus) Diers. On May 11, 1948, she married Daryl Winker in Arcadia, with Father Mathias Stork as celebrant. Inez had worked at General Electric in Carroll for 14 years, retiring in 1987.
She was a lifelong resident of the Carroll/Arcadia area and had lived in Carroll for the past 63 years until moving to Marion in 2011.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild of the church and St. Anthony Auxiliary, and worked several years as a volunteer in the New Hope Village store. Inez was an avid bridge player.
Memorial donations may be given in her name to St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
