Imelda "Imie" G. Goss, 90, died peacefully Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Mercy Iowa City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Oak Hill, Coralville, where a vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or the Crisis Center.
Imie was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Iowa City, the daughter of Joseph and Alma Zenishek Miltner. She was a graduate of University High School and attended Marycrest College. Imie married Richard Goss on Aug. 16, 1945, in Solon. In 1979, she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa.
Imie and Dick were longtime Coralville residents. She had been employed at JC Penney, Iowa City Community School District, and for most of her career she was with the University of Iowa Printing Service.
Imie was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting and knitting. For many years, Imie tatted snowflakes that were given to families who had lost a loved one. She was an avid Hawkeye fan, especially women's basketball, the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Cubs. Imie liked her jigsaw puzzles and sudoku.
Most important to Imie was the time spent with her family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Imie was a longtime resident of Windmill Pointe in Coralville, where she founded the Red Hat Ladies Chapter and had many friends.
Imie is survived by her daughter, Janet (Mark) Schutt of Spirit Lake; her son, Tom (Mary) Goss of North Liberty; son-in-law, Cecil Warren Smith of Fort Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren, Samantha (Timothy) Schutt, Amanda (Will) Cooper, Johnathan Goss, Austin Schutt and Avery Schutt; and seven great-grandchildren, Ben, Peter, Josie, Grant, Aelwyn, Fiona and Reva.
Imie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick"; her daughter, Linda; her son, Richard Jr.; and siblings, Joseph, Leo and Bernard.
