Ilene Mae (Cahoon) Greenwood, 92, of Coralville, passed away on April 11, 2025, with her husband, Leonard, and family by her side, ending a battle with dementia.
Ilene celebrated the unique talent of everyone in her life. She will be deeply missed and her memory cherished by all.
A visitation will be held at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville on April 25 from 4 to 6 PM. A Mass of Christian Funeral will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church on April 26 at 10:30 AM. A full obituary, donation information, and online condolences at www.lensing-funeral.com.
Ilene was born on March 5, 1933 in Quincy, Illinois, to Clifford “CD” and Ethel (Hoover) Cahoon and attended high school in Alexis, Illinois, where she met Leonard Greenwood. Ilene earned her BS at Illinois Normal University in 1955 and practiced speech therapy in Springfield, Illinois, before marrying in 1957.
In 1966, the Greenwood family moved to Coralville, Iowa, where Ilene became an active member of the community, helping Leonard grow his CPA practice and raising 5 daughters. Ilene received 2 Church Women United Valiant Woman Awards, served as PTA President and on the Senior Center Council of Elders. She helped found the Ash Wednesday Supper at St. Thomas More Church.
Ilene is survived by her husband Leonard Greenwood; her sister Jan Whitney; her daughters Janice Schmitt, Colleen Sternshein, Mary Parr, Karen Henke, and Ann Rose; 16 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Marvin Cahoon.
