Ilene J. (Bevins) Strellner, 87, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Living Center East in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone, with Deacon Robert Hurych officiating. The children will greet family and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Keystone. Private family interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, rural Keystone. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Abbe Center, Aging Services or Living Center East.
Ilene was born on June 27, 1930, in Van Horne, the daughter of Clement "Pete" and Mabel (Seeck) Bevins. She graduated from Van Horne High School and married Edward Strellner on Nov. 12, 1949, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She lived, worked and raised their family in Van Horne before moving to Cedar Rapids in recent years. Ilene worked at Farm Service and Monsanto for 36 years prior to her retirement. Throughout her life, she was involved in many church, school and community activities. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren competing in athletics, especially baseball and softball. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren as they grew up.
Ilene is survived by her husband, Ed, of 67 years; three children, Dan (Anne) Strellner of Cedar Rapids, Cindy (Bob) Kaestner of Newhall and Tim (Gwen) Strellner of Marion; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Eric (Keean), Brody, Kellen and Rylan Kaestner of Cedar Rapids, Grant Kaestner of Bettendorf, Erin (Owen) and Carter Stanley of College Station, Texas, Dave Strellner of Telluride, Colo., Jamie Strellner (Alex Craig) of Chicago, Ill., Ben Strellner (Erin Coppock) of Chicago, Ill., and Jack Strellner of Marion; two sisters, Doris Osborn of Keystone and Kathleen Novak of Lisbon; special friend, Patty (Mrs. Ralph) Petersen; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward Bevins; brothers-in-law, Harold Osborn and Wes Novak; mother- and father-in-law, Carl and Margaret Strellner; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leland and Donna Strellner, Joyce and Harold Frizzell and Mary and Duane Gustafson.
