Ida Mae Johnson, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. A public visitation will be held on Friday, January 9 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom. Memorial service will take place Saturday, January 10 at 2:00 pm at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery to follow.
Ida was born in Oelwein, Iowa to Paul and Hilda Schuchmann on October 22, 1940. She lived in Strawberry Point until her marriage to Arthur Johnson, which took place on September 8, 1963. After they were married Art and Ida moved to Cedar Rapids where they raised their family and were happily married for 62 years. Ida’s first job was at Iowa National where she met her late best friend, Betty McBurney. Ida and Betty worked together at a number of places for their entire career life, never leaving one behind. After retirement, Ida volunteered in the Flower Shop at St. Luke’s hospital. Ida’s family was the most important part of her life. She instilled in her children the true meaning and importance of family. Ida was loved by all those who were blessed to know her.
Ida Mae is survived by her husband Arther, children Jeffery (Nicole) Johnson, Wendy (Rodney) Bunch, and Stacy Johnson, as well as her grandchildren Landon, Abby, Natalie, Nathan, and Mitchell. Ida is preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, and 2 grandsons, Alexander and Cameron.
The family of Ida Mae wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Hiawatha Care Center staff for their love and care given to her the past two years.
