Hynes, Mary Louise
Mary Louise Hynes, 95, a longtime Cedar Rapids resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at West Ridge Care Center after a brief illness. Mary was a resident of the Memory Care Unit of West Ridge and had been recovering from a fall at Christmas time. She died peacefully in her sleep. Memorial Mass: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Friends may visit at the church after 9 a.m. Friday until the time of service. According to Mary's wishes, her body was donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mary is survived by her son, Michael (Maureen) Hynes of Edgecomb, Maine; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, William (Feb. 16, 2000), preceded Mary in death.
Mary Louise Hynes was born in Fulton, Ill., the daughter of William Michael and Edna Groharing Tucker. She married William Patrick Hynes on March 8, 1943, in Iowa City. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Parish and a founding member of St. Anthony's Circle. Mary volunteered many years for the American Red Cross. Some of her favorite hobbies included bowling, fishing, golf and crossword puzzles. She loved visiting her grandkids.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Mercy or the American Red Cross.
